The Concord-Merrimack County SPCA is a special admission shelter and we accept all adoptable animals from throughout Merrimack County. Our name reflects our geographic service area, not a governmental body. We are a nonprofit agency dependent on private donations and are not supported by tax dollars. As a special admission shelter we accept adoptable animals in need, but we do utilize an appointment policy to ensure there is space for all incoming animals.

Our eclectic family

The Concord SPCA has united us with all three of our wonderful kitties. Two of them were seniors (Lawrence was 14!) when we adopted them, and it has been a great experience becoming a forever home for these special guys. Lawrence is now 17 and going strong. He loves to sit in a lap, nap on the bed, get scratched under his chin, and wrestle! It's very funny how our kitten, Aiko (formerly Ju Ju), took to the old guy right away when we brought her home, and even now as she weighs almost as much as he does, they still romp around together. Combine that with Lu, the cat who thinks he's a person (he snores, sleeps on my pillow, and does pencil puzzles with me in the bathtub) and the 11-year-old macaw, Felix (who was also in need of a new home), and it's quite a full and exciting house--er, studio apartment. I hope others will consider adopting senior cats, they are the best!
