Happy Tails

Greetings friend from the Concord-Merrimack County SPCA,

We are always looking for feedback and photos of animals adopted from our shelter, if you have them. We have a short questionnaire asking about the adoption process and your experience. It is our hope that you will take a few minutes of your time to review the questionnaire and complete the adoption follow-up survey.

Photos can be emailed to scamara@concordspca.org -- please be sure to include you and your pet's name and location.

Thank you for your time and feedback.

Sincerely,

Concord-Merrimack County SPCA

Many adopters send us notes with updates on how their new pets are getting along. We love sharing these "Happy Tails" with you, scroll down to view some of the many stories adopters have shared with us. In addition we have started a "Happy Tails" photo album on our Facebook page, so be sure to swing over there and check it out as well.

Since adopting Juliet and her kitten Tybalt back in January, the two have made themselves right at home. They love sitting in the sink, chirping at bugs, hiding in boxes and cuddling together (pictured far right). Juliet liked her space at first, but now always wants to be in the same room as us. Tybalt has grown into an affection and very fluffy cat with a enormous tail (pictured at bottom). We joke that he should help us dust the house with it. He always seems to be purring!

Thanks for letting us adopt Juliet and Tybalt (pictured right) ! We're so happy to be their forever home!

Best,
Lauren Bousquet

Happy 15th birthday to our wonderful dachshund Chet.

The day the shelter called me in October 1997 to tell me about him was one of the happiest days of my life.  If I were one to make wishes on dogs for the most loving, loyal, devoted, handsome, best behaved, "yeah, okay, whatever you want" dog, Chet would have far exceeded my wishes.  He's starting to show his age - has to be carried up and down the stairs (still walks well, just doesn't have that oomph needed to get up the stairs), back end tips over once in a while, is covered with warts, is going gray, hard of hearing - but still has that happy, peaceful, playful, sparkle in his eye and can spot a treat and run for it yards away!  He has been a "quiet alpha" for all of our other dogs all these years who respect him as much as we do.

We love you very much, Chet - and thank you, Concord, for calling me those many years ago!

I wanted to send this picture over to you … Aaron (pictured at far end of the sofa) and Rango (formerly Poncho, pictured at the near end of the sofa) started out a little rough but are now BEST BUDDIES and getting along great!

We adopted Aaron last spring and got Rango this past Friday and are so lucky to find both of them (can’t forget their sister Molly, who came from the American Lab Rescue).

People who see them say they want them, and I say, “Well, go to the SPCA, they have GREAT dogs there!!”

Thanks so much for everything you guys do! - Hellen Hill

I adopted DOLLY ... now Mitzi in March
She is the most lovable cat ever. She’s a little overweight, but we are working on that.
She is a senior cat and I am a senior so we are happy together. Two mellow girls are we.
In the lower left photo, she seems to think she cannot be seen. So cute !
Mitzi is such a good cat, she is affectionate, not very demanding and so, so cute. I am glad I decided to take her home, she’s a sweetheart.
I just love her.

Good afternoon!
Here's an update on Pippi!  I CANNOT believe someone else didn't scoop this little girl up sooner!
She is as sweet as they come!  She was a little nervous at first, but now is especially patient with our 3 year old.  While she's petite and delicate looking, we're getting STOMPED on at night when she comes around for scratches and love!  She's lost her "pound pudge", and is doing just great!  She's not particularly liking our other kitty, but we're working on that relationship, and I'm sure it will come around!
Thanks for taking such good care of our Pippi girl for so long!  So glad she's home now!!

~Lori

Dear SPCA,
Here is a picture of my 3 1/2 year old daughter, Myrabella, and our 3 year old cat Mickey (or Mickey Mouse Cat as she calls him). Since adopting him a few months ago, Mickey has become "one of the family." He loves playing with his toys and sleeps in my bed EVERY night!! He is constantly at my heels and often underfoot. Admittedly, I may have stepped on his tail a few times, but he seems to take it as a symbol of my love for him!! He purrs all the time and loves to snuggle with us. As I am typing this email, he is asleep on my feet!! I am afraid, however, that he may be going through a bit of an identity crisis. Every now and then, Myrabella decides that she wants a female cat and calls him Minnie Mouse Cat!! I hope he understands!!

Thanks for the wonderful addition to our family!!
Sincerely, Sarah & Myrabella Castago

Hello All,
Just wanted to update you on Lulu Bells aka Little Blue progress: She's doing doing great after having six teeth extracted. Two of which were very infected. Her mouth is healed up and her breath is getting back to normal. She is a sweet dog and travels better than any dog I've had. We made a trip to our place in N Carolina and she loved it. Here are some pictures:

                                             Thanks again! Sincerely,

Dear SPCA,
Here's a picture of Juno(right), who we adopted from C-MSPCA as an 8-week old kitten a little over one year ago, last May. She is doing well! What a healthy, active kitty! She terrorizes our older cats, but she is a sweetie and full of life. As the old girls move on (they are 15 and 18) we hope to adopt for Juno a younger playmate.

Hello,
This is our cat Nora, who lives in Concord NH. We adopted Nora just over a year and a half ago, when she was 2 or 3 months old. When we adopted her, the description on her cage cautioned that she was “weary of people”, which she was for a while. But today, Nora is a happy, healthy cat, who loves to be where the people are. She not only puts up with all the attention she gets at our house, but appears to love it. She started “meowing” some time after coming to our house, and is now extremely vocal. At the SPCA, Nora was with her very outgoing sister, who was being adopted on the same day, but we think that it has been good for Nora to grow up without someone else’s shadow. She especially likes blankets and windows, and going outside on her leash, as we live on a very busy road. Nora has been great for and well loved by my whole family, even my dad, who was very reluctant to get a pet that didn’t live in a cage. They are now best buddies, and she sits on his arm like she is a princess. I think that we have been good for Nora, as well. I just want to say thank you for everything you do, and for helping us with this wonderful addition to our family!                                                                          ~  Hannah Ossoff

Lucian Just wanted to say that our house has become alot happier better since Lucian (who used to be Grissome) came into our lives. Everyday when I come home he is sitting by the window looking out for me and when I see his face I just smile and can't believe what amazing changes he has made in our house. He may be a big bed hog and he may slobber and jump alot but I think if he was to dissapear or get taken that a hole would be present in my heart. He is the best dog I have had in a long time and I love him. Thank you guys for helping me find him :)

Georgie has been nicknamed "Kung Fu kitty" by our 5 year
old son because of his crazy moves when he goes after our shoelaces! Most of the time, however, you can find him on a lap like he is here. He is a wonderful part of our family.
Thank you!!!

Georgie
Barkley
We thought that you would like to see an updated pic of Mr. Barkley. He's a pleasure and what a wonderful disposition. He just loves everyone. My son and his friend have decided to take up a collection to help the animals and the staff at your facility.

Hazel

Lulu

We came in the Concord SPCA to take a few cats home with us and we were charmed by 2 remarkable cats. Hazel (3) and Lady Gaga (4) easily caught our attention and we were hooked! We were unfamiliar with the adoption process but the staff was friendly, informative and truly cared about their animals. They were able to tell us all about the cats' personalities, likes and dislikes. They really showed a strong interest in placing their animals in good homes. I was afraid I would leave with a heavy heart for leaving the other cats behind, but seeing the staff care for them had me feeling great. The adoption process was painless and before we knew it we were driving home to Warner with our newest family members. The girls were very good in the car ride home with very little crying. They had no idea where they were being shipped off to next. Nevertheless, they were calm and pretty quiet. We couldn't wait to get them home so they could wander. Once home we let them out to explore the basement where the water, food and litter box were already set up. Hazel hid in our bathroom for a while but came out with little coaxing and pretty soon was an authority on our basement. She's quite a brave little cat who was happy to explore. Lady Gaga, whom we'd renamed Lulu by the second day, was petrified and hid behind the dryer. She was stressed but was comforted by alot of attention and chin scratching. After an hour of sitting with her she finally came out. Lulu was at first intimidated by little Hazel. After the first day she was holding her own. Now only the third day in, they go nose to nose frequently and hiss very little now. When they started to relax the second day, they didn't seem to know what to do with all the space. They started to figure out they could go anywhere and soon they were laying on the window sills and spreading out on the couch. I still laugh a little when Hazel slides off the leather couch. As the picture shows, she's gotten the hang of it. Only 3 days in they've shown remarkable progress. I've seen new cats hide for nearly a week before calming down and exploring. Hazel and Lulu are happy and at home. Naturally I've been so happy about my new family that we've had a few visitors. Some of my coworkers and parents have dropped by to meet them and they go right up to them. They are friendly and affectionate cats and everyone remarks at how beautiful they are. They have brought warmth and fun to our home. Thank you Concord SPCA!

Spencer

Strider

Here's a short note to tell you that Spencer and Tango have settled in their new digs with no problems. They are all simply healthy, happy cats; are very playful and affectionate. Not much keeps Spencer down, least ways not a missing leg. He chases and jumps after a stuffed toy mouse laced with catnip with the best of them. He no longer hides at all, but camps in a window, on my desk or in the middle of the bed. Pictures attached where taken within the past several days. The third member of the trio and their new cohort is Strider (grey tiger). I brought him home from the Stratham SPCA about eight years ago. All get along just fine especially Tango with Strider. Strider seems to have taken on the role as mentor for Tango. Thank all the staff at the Concord/Penacook shelter for their wonderful care of all the animals.
Best regards
-- Dan, Center Barnstead

Asha
We just wanted to drop you a line about Sonia (we renamed her Asha). She made herself right at home immediately! We opened the cage and she was out exploring the house right away. She's a sweet girl who seems to be very happy to have a new home. Thanks!

We adopted Sandy as a senior kitty at age 12. She is now 17 and has been a really great addition to our home!

Ding Attached our pictures of our "Ding Dong Daisy", aka Ding. She is a wonderful addition to our family, and clearly knows who she belongs to. We adopted her last October for my daughter's 16 year birthday, having recently lost our kitty, Bear. Whenever Kerri comes home, Ding will meow until Kerri goes to visit her. She stays upstairs in our house, never goes outside. Only ventures downstairs at night when Thea, our mixed breed dog is sound asleep. Thea remains downstairs at all times, so the upstairs is a safe haven for Ding. Steph, our 13 year old, and the major animal lover in the family, is doing her best to convert Ding to favoring her over Kerri, though I think she has her work cut out for her. Thanks again for a beautiful cat!
