The Concord-Merrimack County SPCA is a special admission shelter and we accept all adoptable animals from throughout Merrimack County. Our name reflects our geographic service area, not a governmental body. We are a nonprofit agency dependent on private donations and are not supported by tax dollars. As a special admission shelter we accept adoptable animals in need, but we do utilize an appointment policy to ensure there is space for all incoming animals.

Concord-Merrimack County SPCA and American Humane Celebrate 94th Annual
Be Kind to Animals Week, May 4-10

The American Humane Association created Be Kind to Animals Week in 1915 to encourage compassion toward animals.  Every year, animal shelters throughout the country hold special events during this time-honored week to raise awareness about animals in the community and to celebrate the unique bond between humans and animals.

In honor of Be Kind to Animals Week, Concord-Merrimack County SPCA suggests the following ways of showing appreciation to the animals around us:

  • Report animal abuse or neglect
  • Adopt a new pet at the shelter
  • Speak out on the importance of respecting animals
  • Spay or neuter your pets and encourage family and friends to do the same
  • Drive carefully through areas populated with wild animals such as deer
  • Plant a butterfly or hummingbird garden in your back yard
  • Donate to or volunteer at your local animal shelter
